Noted author/speaker Dr. Tony Evans will speak on Thursday, March 29 at 7 p.m. at Christ United Methodist Church. Evans is appearing as the featured speaker in the Dorothy and Kemmons Wilson Speaker Series sponsored by the Kemmons Wilson Family Foundation. The public is invited to attend this free community event.

Evans is one of the country’s most respected leaders in evangelical circles. He is a pastor, best-selling author and frequent speaker at Bible conferences and seminars throughout the nation. He has served as the senior pastor of Oak Cliff Bible Fellowship for more than 35 years, witnessing its growth from 10 people in 1976 to now more than 9,000 congregants with 100 plus ministries.

He also serves as president of The Urban Alternative, a national ministry that seeks to bring about spiritual renewal in America through the church. His daily radio broadcast, The Alternative with Dr. Tony Evans, can be heard on more than 500 radio outlets throughout the United States and in more than 40 countries.

Evans has authored more than 50 books including Oneness Embraced, The Kingdom Agenda, Marriage Matters and Victory in Spiritual Warfare.

He served as chaplain for the NFL’s Dallas Cowboys, and continues to serve as chaplain for the NBA’s Dallas Mavericks, a ministry he has done for more than 30 years.

Evans is married to Lois, his wife and ministry partner of 41 years. His daughter is the well known evangelist Priscilla Shirer.

Mr. and Mrs. Wilson were dedicated, faithful and generous members of Christ United Methodist Church for many decades, and this speaker series is designed to carry on in the same spirit to benefit the entire Memphis community by bringing in important speakers on an annual basis. Tony Evans is the seventh speaker in this series. Prior speakers were Tim Keller (2011), John MacArthur (2010), Tony Campolo (2009), Tony Dungy (2008), John Maxwell (2007) and Max Lucado (2006).

The Kemmons Wilson Family Foundation is a family-run foundation that honors the legacy of giving established by Dorothy and Kemmons Wilson. The Foundation intends to positively impact and transform the Memphis community through its gifting. The categories for grant-making include community outreach and development, advancement of youth, enrichment of education, faith-based ministries and health and research-related organizations.
