The Urban Summit is the Mid-South's premiere experience for Urban Ministry Training.  This one day event features training and conversations in the areas of Biblical Justice, Community Development and Education Reform.

Morning workshops include Community Development & Youth Empowerment with Michael Matta, Urban Development Director for World Vision USA; Urban Education & Community & Church Engagement with David Montague, Director of Memphis Teacher Residency; and Toxic Charity with Bob Lupton, founder FCS Urban Ministries, who has invested almost 40 years of his life in inner-city Atlanta.

The collective wisdom of John Perkins and Bob Lupton provided the model for our own Binghampton Development Corporation (BDC).

Sunday, March 18 | 9:45am - 10:45am   John Perkins, Guest Preacher at CUMC

John Perkins was born in poverty, the son of a sharecropper.  He fled to California when he was 17 after his older brother was murdered by a town marshal.  Although John vowed never to return, in 1960 he accepted Christ, he returned to his boyhood home to share the gospel of Christ with those still living in the region.  His outspoken support and leadership role in the civil rights demonstrations resulted in repeated harassment, imprisonment and beatings.

Today, John is president of John M Perkins Foundation for Reconciliation and Development of Jackson, Mississippi.  He is one of the leading evangelical voices to come out of the American civil rights movement.  He is also a nationally known author, speaker, and teacher on issues of racial reconciliation and Christian community development.   He is author of nine books including A Quiet Revolution, Let Justice Roll Down, With Justice For All, Beyond Charity, He's My Brother, Resurrecting Hope, and A Time To Heal.  John Perkins formerly served on the board of directors for World Vision, Prison Fellowship, National Association of Evangelicals, Spring Arbor University as well as 15 other boards.
