Membership Vows

When one joins Christ Church, two questions are asked. First, do you repent of your sins and trust
in Jesus Christ as your personal Savior and Lord? The second question is: Will you faithfully
participate in Christ Church by your prayers, your presence, your gifts and your service?

Prayers
We ask you to pray at least once per day. Why? Because the more often
we talk with the Lord, the closer to Him we feel. We need His help and

guidance on a daily basis. Jesus prayed to God regularly. If He needed
to, we certainly do. Please pray regularly for your church and for your
pastors. And anytime you need prayer, fill out the prayer card in the
bulletin or contact the church office. Our prayer servants at Christ
Church will lift you up.

Presence
This means your attendance, at both worship and a Community Life
Group
. We are asking you to secede from that huge group of Americans
who have a big decision to make every Sunday morning: Should we go to
church? We should be as automatic about where we go on Sunday as we
are on Monday, unless an emergency, illness, or very high priority
commitment interferes. Why should we make such a commitment?
Because God wants to meet us in worship! God will be here whether the
sermon and music are good, bad or indifferent.

Gifts
Yes, folks, that means your money. In Malachi 3:10, the Bible declares that
the first 10 percent of our income belongs to God. Motivated by gratitude
and obedience, take the first 10 percent of every dollar you ever receive
and invest it with God. In that way, God will become a financial partner
with you. Then spend or save the remaining 90 percent with joy and
thanksgiving. Tithing (giving the first 10 percent off the top) provides
you some incredibly dramatic glimpses of God’s grace working in
your life.

Service
Jesus said, “Whoever would be great among you must be your servant
(Matthew 20:26). When you claimed Jesus Christ as your Savior and Lord,
the Holy Spirit activated your spiritual gifts. God has given to every
Christian certain gifts so that we will be useful and effective disciples. Let
me mention just a few of the gifts that are noted in the Bible—hospitality,
teaching, preaching, mercy, healing, administration, creative
communication, evangelism and service. When you know your gifts and
use them, you will feel God’s pleasure in a special and fulfilling way. As a
member you are expected to serve in a mission or ministry of the church.

If you have made a personal commitment to Jesus Christ, if you let us help you find a class or
small group in our church to be a part of and if you will use at least one spiritual gift in a ministry
of this church, you will be deeply fulfilled as a part of Christ Church. And the Church will be blessed because of you.
