Emily S. Matheny

Rev. Emily Smith Matheny serves as the Executive Director of Congregational Care and as an associate pastor. Her primary responsibilities include working with and among us as the coordinator of pastoral care, prayer ministries and senior adult ministries. Emily was appointed to CUMC in June 2011. She is an ordained elder in the Memphis Annual Conference and has served as the pastor of Highland Heights UMC and Everett Memorial UMC and as Chaplain/Principal of New Hope Christian Academy. Before entering the ministry, Emily taught history and was the Middle School Principal at St. Mary’s Episcopal School.
A native of Jackson, Mississippi, Emily is married to Rev. Mark Matheny, and they have two adult children. Justin is a lawyer in Jackson, Mississippi, and Claire is a United Methodist minister currently serving St. Paul UMC in Kensington, Maryland. Rev. Matheny has a B.A. from Millsaps College, an M.A. from the University of Memphis and an M.Div. from Memphis School of Theology where she currently serves on the Board of Trustees.
