From the very beginning of John Mark McMillan’s career nearly a decade ago, his music has defied easy categorization. A singer-songwriter as interested in musical exploration as lyrical exploration, McMillan carved his own path from the outset.

In March 2014, McMillan released Borderland, his fourth studio album. The album debuted at No. 1 on the iTunes Christian and Gospel chart, held a Top 15 slot in the iTunes Overall Albums and hit No. 41 on Billboard’s Top 200. “Future/Past” was nominated for the GMA Dove Award’s “Worship Song of the Year” and RELEVANT Magazine listed Borderland as one of the “Top Albums of 2014.”

Last fall, McMillan released The Borderland Sessions, a compilation of intimate, alternate takes of his latest full-length album. The LP shot straight to No. 1 on the iTunes Christian and Gospel chart. In addition to McMillan’s commentary for each song, the album also features special guest vocalists including Bear Rinehart from NEEDTOBREATHE, Ray Dalton, known for his powerful vocals in Macklemore & Ryan Lewis' "Can't Hold Us,” Kim Walker-Smith of Jesus Culture, Brady Toops and his wife Sarah McMillan. The album was nominated for the 2015 GMA Dove Awards' Rock/Contemporary Album of the Year.

On June 23, John Mark & Sarah McMillan released a new EP titled You Are The Avalanche, which debuted #1 on the iTunes Christian & Gospel chart and peaked at #17 on the iTunes Overall Albums chart. Co-written by McMillan and his wife, the EP is the first ever project from the duo. Both singable and searching, each song speaks to the Maker's deep goodness that often hides within the day to day. Sonically stacked with layers of world percussion, airy guitar and vintage synth, You Are The Avalanche nods to McMillan's 2014 record Borderland but clearly has a fresh face of its own.
