CORE COURSES
CHRONOLOGICAL OVERVIEW OF THE BIBLE
Everyone has a defining narrative for his or her life. The Christian faith believes that the defining narrative is the biblical story and the new life we have in Christ. The goal is for every participant to know the central stories of our Christian faith, see how they reveal the Gospel and finally understand how they shape our worldview.
Each class features lecture and discussion. Careful attention will be given to:
- How does each story fit into the overarching story of redemption?
- How does each story reveal the human condition?
- How does each story demonstrate God's initiative to redeem His people?
- How is Christ revealed in the Old Testament?
- How do these stories shape how we believe and live daily?
GOSPEL TRANSFORMATION
In this course we will learn that the Gospel has the power
not only to save us, but also to transform us. This
transformation takes place when we believe by faith that we are the adopted
sons and daughters of God whose needs are met in Christ. Specifically, we’ll
look at what it means to say, “I am worse than I think I am, and the Gospel is
greater than I realize.” We will uncover near and far idols in our lives,
learn how faith and repentance lead to freedom and peace and spot the two
enemies of the Gospel—Relativism and Moralism.
Each class features lecture and discussion. Careful attention will be given to:
- The extremity of our brokenness and the extremity of God's pursuit.
- Identify the idols in our lives.
- The meaning of adoption in Christ.
- The implications of justification and sanctification by faith.
- How the Gospel propels people into mission.
JESUS PEOPLE: THE CHARACTER & CONTENT OF CHRISTIAN MISSION
In this course we will ask what Jesus wants from the people He redeems, and we'll learn that (surprise!) we are missionaries. He hasn't just saved us by grace; He has recruited us and is graciously transforming us so that we can be His servants at work in His world for His Kingdom purposes. We'll learn about the method of our mission and take a look at the opposition to our mission and how the Gospel empowers us to overcome it.
