Christ United Methodist Church participates in Lifeblood’s group program called CLUBLifeblood. Lifeblood’s goal is to have blood readily available to the community to save the lives of those who need it. To motivate consistent blood donations, Lifeblood has created this program to offset the cost of blood and blood products to families who have received blood transfusions in their medical treatment and insurance coverage has not been adequate to offset this expense.

The Benefit
For every 25 donations (whole blood or platelets) or 12 donations of double red cells donated in CUMC’s name, a voucher will be set aside for the use of a church member. This voucher can be used to offset the cost of administering blood by medical personnel. Although the process of applying for the voucher can take up to four weeks, the medical facility will accept the voucher payment up to six months after the use of the blood or blood product.

How the program works
  1. All members are asked to donate blood as regularly as they are able, specifying that the donation is for the group CUMC.
  2. The family of a CUMC member who has been administered blood or a blood product is billed for that cost by the hospital. If the insurance company completely offsets that cost, no voucher is available from the church.
  3. If the billed amount exceeds the insurance coverage, the family may request to participate in the CUMC CLUBLifeblood voucher program.
  4. An application is obtained from the Pastoral Ministry office in person or online within six months of hospitalization.
  5. Once completed in accordance with the directions, the application is returned to the Pastoral Ministry office for confidential consideration by a review team.
  6. When an award is determined, the family is contacted and provided with any paperwork necessary for Lifeblood to work with the hospital to lower the cost to the family. The work of the Pastoral Ministry office is complete once it provides the voucher form to the family.
